Castlevania is a series of action-adventure horror games about a vampire hunter owned and developed by famous game maker Konami. Since its inception, it has been developed on various platforms, from early console systems to modern mobile and PC versions. This game’s branding has also been expanded to other genres such as comic books and animated TV series, and several other video games.
Castlevania is mostly set in a vast castle of old doctor Dracula, the main antagonist of all Belmont vampire hunter tribe games. This character first appeared in 1986 on handheld systems in old consoles. The goal in most games is the side-scrolling action, and the pinnacle of this game is the 1997 version, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
The first games of this series were released for PlayStation, after which non-linear gameplay was added to a few elements of RPG and explored in the Symphony of the Night version. 2010 saw the debut of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. This is a kick-in for the application of 3 D technology in the game makers of this series.
Castlevania is one of Konami’s highest-rated game series and also the best-selling game series of all time.
Castlevania has relatively many spin-off versions, the first being Kid Dracula for the Famicon, a simple platformer game starring the main characters. Several other games are also receiving sequels on other Game Boy platforms. Castlevania Judgment is another version released for the Wii in 2008 and was developed by Eighting. Another playable online side story is Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, which was available on multiple platforms in 2010, where players can role-play Castlevania characters from the past and explore levels.
