Donkey Kong is a series of video games featuring the adventures of a gorilla called Donkey Kong, conceived by Shigeru Miyamoto in 1981
Mario has been mistreating his pet gorilla, Donkey Kong. So for revenge, the giant ape has stolen his girlfriend Pauline and climbed to the top of the construction site, and is doing everything he can to stop you from taking her back.
Even though the kidnapping of the damsel plot is overused nowadays, this was one of the first times it was used in a game. It’s also interesting in fact, that Mario could be interpreted in different ways due to his apparent mistreating of Donkey Kong. It’s a classic story that still holds up to this day, so full marks for this area.
The gameplay in this game was phenomenal for its time, and the NES port kept that greatness. Mario (known as Jumpman) responds very well to your commands, He doesn’t jump as high or go as fast as his later incarnations, but he doesn’t need too. He also has the hammer power-up, which makes him temporarily invincible, but makes him unable to climb while using it. However, not all of the game is in this port. The second stage has been removed for space, which is disappointing in some respects, so gameplay loses a point for that. Overall though, the gameplay in this is superb.
