Crash Nitro Kart is a 2003 racing video game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Universal Interactive for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance.

One of the reasons I like kart racing is that it is very enjoyable to play. The control is so easy that even a 3-year kid could play this game. The exciting cartoon characters from the Crash Bandicoot platform game add excitement into this game where users can choose from Crash Bandicoot, Coco, Dr. Neo Cortex, N.Gin, and Tiny as well as other new characters from the platform game. Like other cartoon based kart game, some wacky items and weapons can be obtained throughout the race like turbo boosters, missile rockets, nitro bombs, Shields, or even time warp device for users to slow down other’s kart in order to win the race.

Users can choose multiple courses in a racing mode where users can battle against AI or human players, which can be played up to 4 players simultaneously. Besides racing, users also can play other play modes like a battle mode where users have to destroy other’s karts like “Twisted Metal” style but only this time, it uses cartoon characters. Other play modes included ‘steal the flag’ or ‘get the diamond,’ also quite interesting and worth playing. Users also can create a cup to add excitement to the game and create a better rivalry among the players.

Adventure mode in CNK is exciting to play as users have to win every race to race against the boss at each level and thus unlocked a new character. Users can choose between two teams, either ‘Team Bandicoot,’ the good team, or ‘Team Neo,’ the villain team. Playing the adventure mode also provides a simple tutorial mode, teaching users how to perform tricks, which is very useful. Besides that, users also can play in CNK, Relic, and Time challenge in the adventure mode.

CNK is very creative in exploiting the fun looking cartoon games into a good racing game. The menus are straightforward, which is easy for children to interact throughout the game. The game’s selection menu is also straightforward to browse and makes it very easy for users to select an option. The display of status while playing the game is quite neat and easy to understand. The minus of this game is that it uses difficult writing to read, like reading each lap of the race.
