Kirby – Nightmare In Dreamland is a platform game for GBA. This is a remake version of Kirby’s adventure Game (1993) on SNES. The game was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo.
The story in Kirby – Nightmare In Dreamland begins after a nap of Kirby. He didn’t dream, it was a very strange thing in this world. Kirby discovered that something was wrong and he wanted to find out. In Dreamland, dreams always flow from Fountain of Dreams, which holds the hopes and dreams of everyone. It is also the place that brings sweet dreams to all the inhabitants of the kingdom. So, Kirby decided to visit Fountain of Dreams to find out everything. As he predicted, something happened here. Upon arriving in Fountain of Dreams, Kirby met King Dedede holding the Star Rod, the power source for Fountain of Dreams. Unfortunately, King Dedede broke it into seven different pieces and sent it everywhere. This action caused Nighmare to cover the entire kingdom and they made everyone’s dreams worse. Kiry decided to defeat King Dedede to find the pieces of the Star Rod and bring peace to Dream Land.
Fragments of the Star Rod were handed over to his subordinates by Dedede. They are in 6 different lands in Dream Land. Your mission is to go through all the lands, defeat all enemies and collect debris to recover the Star Rod. If you’ve played Kirby’s Dream Land on SNES, you’ll notice that the gameplay of Kirby – Nightmare In Dreamland is not much different. It is a 2D platform with classic gameplay. In the game, you control the main character is Kirby, a ball with the ability to copy. By sucking in and devouring the enemies that appeared on the way, Kirby absorbed their ability to transform into power. There are 25 types of skills that Kirby can absorb and copy.
Besides, he also has the basic abilities to attack. Specifically, Kirby can suck opponents or certain obstacles, then shoot to attack. He can also slide, inflate to hover in the air or jump over obstacles.
Information about the character displayed at the bottom of the screen includes: Life count, Health bar and score. Each health bar consists of 6 small columns. When Kirby is hit, the health bar will decrease by one. There is a maximum of 6 health columns and if it returns you will lose one life. You can increase your character’s health by picking up items that appear along the way, or opening chests.
There are 7 stages in the game corresponding to 7 puzzle pieces that you need to search. Each stage will consist of many small stages and they usually end with a doorway to the new stage. At the end of each stage, you will meet the bosses, who are King Dedede’s subordinates and are also holding the puzzle pieces. You need to defeat all bosses to complete the game.
Besides the main boss is Nightmare, you will meet 7 other big bosses in Kirby – Nightmare In Dreamland. They are the guardians of the gates to pass the new land. These bosses are also holding pieces from the Star Rod that if you defeat them, you will collect them. 7 big bosses in the game are Whispy Woods, Paint Roller, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright, Kracko, Heavy Mole, Meta Knight and King Dedede. Boss fights are always difficult but interesting. Each boss uses a unique skill to attack. So you need to know its movements to avoid its attacks. For example, the Whispy Woods is a giant apple tree that can drop apples from the air to injure Kirby. After defeating a boss, you can absorb its skills to use.
