It’s another Mario release, and this time he’s a baby! That’s right, that Italian plumber is a baby now, and this is when he meets Yoshi, the dinosaur, and befriends him.
When Baby Mario falls from the sky, he lands among a pack, herd, school, whatever of dinosaurs. He seems to know something, so Yoshi takes him onto his back and runs off into a giant island filled with danger, excitement, and confusion. You fight thru trying to save Luigi and battle off against bosses like Bigger Boo, a giant ghost, a giant frog prince (actually, it’s you who’s small), and of course, the shelled dread Bowser. The storyline sticks to the usual Mario ones but is somewhat different. More or less, it’s unique in its way.
As Yoshi, you encounter a total of six worlds. Each split into a series of stages you must undergo before reaching your goal and destination. Controlling Yoshi is easy as you can suck in enemies and turn them into eggs to aim and throw at your disposal. For the perfectionist, in each stage, there are five flowers and 30 red coins you can collect. And the perfect star rating is to test your ability to play through the steps without getting hit too much.
Besides, Yoshi can transform into various transportation to get through different and various obstacles that the game throws at you. This allows for some unique strategizing on your part to make the best of a temporary situation. With all this in mind, Yoshi’s island adds many new elements while retaining the classic Mario platforming experience and seeing some very familiar faces from previous games in the long-running Mario series.
