Carmen Sandiego is a popular game series with adventure and action elements. It is available many different versions. There are two main producers of this series, Broderbund and The Learning Company. With Broderbund, it has 11 versions of this game. And The Learning Company designed nine different versions. In which, Carmen Sandiego: The Secret of the Stolen Drums is the third of the nine editions of The Learning Company. It is the first version of a game series, allowing character control in 3D. BAM! Entertainment published this version for three platforms in 2004 (Xbox, PS 2 and Nintendo GameCube).
Basically, Experience Carmen Sandiego: The Secret of the Stolen Drums, the players will become Cole Gannon, an ACME’s investigative character. He was pursuing a case of finding special drums which contained the magical power of a tribe. The drums were taken to different areas, and Cole had to find out to retrieve them. Like many previous versions, players will have to defeat the minions of Carmen Isabella Sandiego to complete the mission.
In order to complete the search for the stolen magic drums, Cole has to explore many areas to collect information. There are nine areas to explore, including four available areas and five mysterious areas. The four areas are Machu Picchu (an ancient citadel in Peru), the beach in New Zealand, the museum in New York City and the palace in Bangkok.
Besides, collecting information will not be simple, and the players have to overcome many different complex terrains. You will have to climb or swing from high to low position. In addition, you also face to enemies in the course of the mission. Specially, each enemy in the game has to destroy in different ways. Some enemies allow the players to fight them directly. Meanwhile, the players will use the iron rod which is avalable to defeat the enemy. As for some other enemies, players can only defeat them by attacking from behind. From having to fight with sneaky attacks from behind of enemies, the players have a stealth skill to use.
In terms of image quality reviews, Carmen Sandiego: The Secret of the Stolen Drums doesn’t get many positive responses. The only highlight of the game is 3D graphics. The weakness is that the scenery which is simple and tedious design, does not create excitement for players.
