Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans is a video game based on the manga and anime series Dragon Ball for the Nintendo DS.
The game brings a very frank event. Its plot is neither manga-based nor anime. It is based on one of the famous Dragon Ball Kai storylines of the Dragon Ball Z game series. In addition, it has the filling of holes by inserting the story of the “refills”. On the contrary, Dragon Ball Kai provides a pretty good storyline but lacks originality.
Anyway, the story we get in this game is the real story that a lot of people already know thanks to Anime. We can play stories that happened between each time gap. Much of the time is the “Training” space, which usually includes go-dungeon-kill-boss parts, but it’s not that bad.
This is a traditional turn-based role-playing game. You have a party of three characters from the DBZ universe. And you put in commands for each of them and keep taking turns until the battle is over. What makes this game different is the “Active Guard” system, which is where you have to guard against attacks in real-time, right before the enemy hits you to reduce damage. Also, there is a sparking system, which is like a limit break system from various Final Fantasy games. However, in this game, you combine them with another character to do a combo sparking, much like Chrono Trigger. When you level up you get to choose which stats you want to rise such as “Strength, Tech, Defense”, and also you get to pick and choose which skills you want to learn and level up, such as attack skills and passive skills.
Now, what makes this game great as well is that it isn’t too much like formal RPG’s. You don’t really have a white mage or black mage, you got a bunch of different unique skills that you get to choose from and sort of creating a party of your choosing.
