New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a 2D side-scrolling platform video game developed by Nintendo for the Wii. A follow-up to the 2006 Nintendo DS game New Super Mario Bros.
This game is a remake of New Super Mario Bros DS in a single player. Except you can only be Mario. But that’s not where the game shines. What shines is multiplayer. Up to four players can play at one time. Player one is always Mario, but players two, three, and four can be Luigi, Blue Toad, or yellow toad who you make no difference at all in the gameplay.
Now to the actual gameplay. The gameplay is very similar to the new super Mario bros DS and Super Mario Bros 3. However, all the levels are fresh and unique, but some are similar. Then there is the mini-bosses strolling around on the overworld map. That gets in your way if you bump into them.
NSMBW is far from the most difficult Mario platformer ever. It is almost certainly among the easiest. However, for a beginner, his game presents a nice challenge. For a seasoned player, going back and collecting all of the Star Coins will give even the most skilled Mario fans a little run for their money. The game gets more challenging at the perfect pace, in my opinion. World 1 is a piece of cake. World 2 is relatively simple, with a slight challenge every once in a while. World 3 is, in my opinion, the first “transition world.” It begins with the same relative difficulty as World 2 but ramps up in a challenge with 3-3. However, this level is optional, which makes sense to me. Level 3-2 is relatively simple, while 3-fortress is quite challenging for a beginner. Class 3-3 acts as a bridge between these two levels. If you are experienced, then skipping straight to the fortress will be no big deal.
Powerups: The propeller suit, penguin, ice flower, and small mushroom. The propeller allows you to jump a significant amount in the air with the shake of the Wiimote. Penguin suit allows you to shoot iceballs that freeze enemies into ice blocks that break after a certain amount of time. The ice blocks can be jumped on and thrown. You can also slide on ice and destroy enemies. The ice flower allows you to shoot iceballs, opposite of a fire flower. Finally, the small mushroom shrinks you. You’re able to fit through small spaces and jump much higher. Although, you die in one hit.
