Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! (known as Punch-Out!!), is an addictive fighting game with a boxing theme. Nintendo released this game on NES in 1987. In the game, the main character is Little Mac. Gamers will control him to participate in boxing matches. When participating in professional tournaments, you will face many different fighters. Besides, and the difficulty level will increase gradually. At the end of each game, you will fight the last boss – the World Champion – Mike Tyson.
Similar to a real-life tournament, players will compete in different rounds to increase the rank and meet Mike Tyson in the final battle (to compete for the world championship). A match of the game will take place with multiple rounds, each of which will have limited time. A round ends only when the time is over, or a fighter is knocked out. When one fighter is knocked down three times in a row and cannot stand up, the remaining fighter wins and ends the match. Besides, after a knocked out (referred to as KO) as well as the boxer cannot stand after 10 seconds, the match will end. Of course, the remaining player is the winner. In case the match ends without any knock-out, the game will rely on the points accumulated by the fighter in the match to find the winner. The boxer with more points will win the game.
Unlike the other fighters of the game, Little Mac is limited in competition techniques. Players can only use some basic attack skills, a special attack skill. The basics allow you to use the left or right-hand punches. Also, Mac’s special skill is a hook from the bottom up. However, special techniques are only activated after the player has collected stars (shown in the left corner of the screen). Besides, Stars can be accumulated by performing a series of counter-attacks or attacks in a short time (making the opponent unable to counterattack). Players can accumulate a maximum of three stars. In addition to the attacks, Mac will perform defensive skills by avoiding to the right or left, lowering the head and raising its arms for protection.
