Mega Man X8 is the eighth and final version of the Mega Man X series (excluding remakes or expansions). Besides, the game also has another name is Rockman X8. This version is still released by Capcom. The first platform was PlayStation 2. The game was available in North America on December 7, 2004, Europe on February 11, 2005, and Japan on March 10, 2005. In addition to the PS 2 platform, you can play this game on some other platforms such as PlayStation 4 (via PlayStation Network, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch.
The X8’s plot takes place in 21XX, and Maverick Wars had no sign of ending. At that time, new Reploids were developed to avoid the fight. The curator for this new project was Lumine. However, he was kidnapped, and X had to find a way to rescue him. Besides, X also had to learn the plot of the guy who captured Lumine and stopped it to protect the world.
About the gameplay, Mega Man X8 is similar to the previous versions. There are some new customizations for players to explore. The Challenge system still takes place in each stage (there are 8 stages to conquer). At the end of each stage, there will be a boss and a separate stage to discover. After completing the eight stages (no need to follow a fixed sequence), players will experience a more complex challenge system to meet the final boss and end the game.
In the game, players can choose one of the allowed three characters to use. Besides, each will have different characteristics to use during the competition. They are X, Axl, and Zero. In which, X and Axl have strong points in the ability to attack from far. And Zero still has the familiar melee combat system. Regarding the weapon system, the equipment is still the same as the previous versions. However, the manufacturer has some interesting edits. From the equipment that collects to build armor, this version allows X to customize the collected equipment to create two other armors, Hermes and Icarus. In addition, they will have their different features but it will not be as optimal as the original armor. Therefore, players have to have smart strategies in the use of them. As for Axl, this character has some changes compared to X. Instead of collecting the boss’s weapons after completing battles like X, Axl will receive a completely new weapon. In addition, Zero can buy new weapons from the game’s store.
The difference in X8’s graphics system compared to its previous (X7) is that the manufacturer has removed the 3D image system. Instead, the game’s battles can play in 2.5D environments. However, there are still two stages using 3D, Dynasty, and Central White.
