The 3rd Birthday is a third-person role-playing shooter co-developed by Square Enix and HexaDrive. And it was first published by Square Enix for the PlayStation Portablexcitinge
Perhaps the more controversial part of this title, because of its confusing moments. In truth, it has a huge potential with infinite possibilities. When you truly understand the story, all make clear, like the reason why Aya is so fragile in some parts. Nevertheless, some points remain unexplained, but it only gives an opening to do more games within the franchise.
This game, although it can be categorized as a third-person shooter, is quite an unorthodox one. I say this because some weapons can’t even be aimed manually, instead only by lock-on. Overdrive, the game’s central system, allows the protagonist Aya to control any soldier on the battlefield. The game provides ‘situations’ and little gameplay details to ensure players use the system, and I’d say it pretty much succeeds.
This may sound a little off the base. However, the game reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles, another unique game – a strategic RPG with shooter elements. The difference is that while Valkyria Chronicles still retains some turn-based features from its root genre, it’s all real-time.
Here is the real revolutionary part of the title. It continues an Action-RPG. Her also weapons levels up, and a new and interesting “DNA Board” system was put to high the customization even more. Her Parasite Energies ( spells ) don’t exist anymore, but the cause is explained in the story. The controls “in-game” are perfect; you have total control of Aya while she fights the twisted. The new dodge move truly helps in the most dangerous situation, as the covers and the fantastic original “Overdiving” system give the series a new breath.
