Naruto: Ultimate Ninja, known in Japan as the Naruto: Narutimate Series, is a series of fighting video games, based on the popular manga and anime series Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto, for the PlayStation 2
The story begins with Naruto returning to his village after three years of intense training. He meets Sakura and Kakashi, and the story progresses throughout the entire series up to the current episodes. You can play all the main characters of the series (Naruto, Sasuke, Shikamaru, Kakashi, Gai, Gaara, Bee, etc.), and you can also play the villain (Kakuzu, Hidan, Sasori, Deidara, etc.). You usually play Naruto and Sasuke in story mode, but Shikamaru and Jiraya also take on the story’s leading roles. Each character has many special abilities called Jutsus. Most are designed to target multiple people at once. The quests are quite amusing and keep you from taking your eyes off the conversation.
The game covers Shippuden’s full storyline, which is excellent if you want to relive the series’s classic moments. Voiceover is perfect in the story mode segment, and you can switch between English and Japanese voices at any time. The sound effects are good, and the characters are well depicted. The music matches the theme of the show, and nothing seems out of place. It captures the spirit of the show very well. Even the small moments like hearing Hidan argue with Kakuzu made this game stand out from the other Naruto games.
There’s a lot to see and do as you can level up your character and buy new ninja cards. Ninja cards allow you to build decks that make your name stronger. Some of these are upgradable, and some are rarer than others. There are specific characters and can change the form of awakening or change other Jutsus. You can purchase access to in-game tracks, unlock wallpapers, and unlock mini cutscenes by doing a good Time Event.
