Naruto: Ultimate Ninja is a series of fighting video games, based on the popular manga and anime series Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto, for the PlayStation 2. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress is a part of this series.
An original storyline instead of following the show again. This time a giant summoned castle appears and begins to drain the life of Hidden Leaf Village. And since apparently “The Jonin team never reported back” or whatever. Naruto and his friends go and storm the castle themselves. Now I’m not gonna deny it. The story isn’t half bad. But instead of doing just cut scenes. You either have to do tedious-and frankly not quite fun-mini games. Take the quiz mini-game, for example. While at first, it can be a little fun to answer some NARUTO questions. Soon you get questions like “What match was who vs. who?” What the crap? Who’s gonna take the time to memorize that? Or you can do about 5 to 7 battles a piece for each floor. And there are about 100 floors. Good luck. And for beating the story, what do you get? A “Hidden” Story mode in which you have to relive 30 floors of this crap again.
This is the only good part of the good old fashioned gameplay. The only bad things about this are some characters can’t use certain combos because some people (IE Naruto) had their air combos barely hittable. Another thing is the overused super-powered ultimate Jutsus. While not only delivering monstrous damage, you even get a short transformation period. (Example Curse Marked Sasuke) During that period, your attacks are extremely overpowered and can end a battle pretty much with a couple of regular Jutsu attacks. The AI tends to substitute, spam, repeat, which gets annoying at higher levels of difficulty to make it worse.
