Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, is a role-playing video game developed by Atlus. The fourth installment in the Persona series is part of the larger Megami Tensei franchise.

As of the original, you play as an average transfer student, experiencing what they called the dark hour, thus unlocking the ability to call upon the power of Persona. Eventually, you’ll join a team that specializes in taking out these monsters called Shadows as well as their “Bosses” while climbing a Tower called Tartarus that appears during the Dark Hour. Eventually, they’ll bump into new allies and enemies (While losing some on the way) and fight the Final Boss called Nyx on top of the Tower.

The gameplay is a mix of a dating sim/visual novel and a console-style RPG. We found it unique. The battle system is quite similar to the Pokemon series. You have “personae,” and each can level up, learn different moves, and have various weaknesses and resistances. You can switch them during battle. There is an option to fuse your persona to create stronger ones; here is where the dating sim part comes. You go through a large number of days (almost a year), and on certain days you ask NPCs to hang out with you and eventually form a relationship ( and possibly become your lover). This will give bonuses to your persona fusions. A nice thing to mention that pretty much everything is optional. You can go directly home and end your day without forming relationships or fighting monsters and leveling up. Still, you may get screwed over by bosses that appear on scripted storyline event days.

Also, P3P’s gameplay is a mix of P3 and P4, compensating for each other’s flaws. Although this time around, S-Link/Commu does play a somewhat more significant role. That will affect the outcomes of some events when you’re playing the female route.

Also, another similarity to Persona 3, not many differences from the original. Even in terms of Dungeon controls, it’s still the same old controls-circle to Attack, Analog directions to move around. The added effect of the Square button is similar to P4 to quickly move about from one place to another in the area.
