Chicken Run is an adventure game which was based on an animated film of the same name by DreamWWorks. This game was available by Blitz Games for four different platforms. The first is Game Boy Color, THQ Inc. released on November 3, 2000 for North America, and November 24, 2000 for Europe. The next two platforms are Dreamcast and PlayStation, they were published by Eidos Interactive at the same time. For North America, the game was offered on November 13, 2000. And for Europe on November 24, 2000. The final was Microsoft Windows and was available to three markets. North America, on December 4, 2000. Europe, on December 15, 2000. Australia, on January 16, 2001.
Regarding the plot, Chicken Run is similar to the movie of the same name. The background takes place at a chicken farm. The chickens are trying to escape to lead a comfortable life. And they don’t worry about being Mrs. Tweedy catches when not providing the required eggs. The leader of the chicken in the escape plan is Ginger, a smart and courageous chicken. To help her pack, Ginger develops an audacious plan, and she is gathering the needed tools to serve the escape.
In the game, the players can control Ginger and some other characters (Nick, Fetcher or Rocky) in many different stages. In which, each mission will require the players to collect a certain item. When searching and collecting items, players will have to move smart to not make noise. Because there will be hunting dogs and lights from guards to patrol around the farm. In addition, players can also lose the collected items when the guard discoveres. Besides moving skillfully to complete the task, Chicken Run also brings obstacles along the way and some items to collect. They will be placed in complex terrain and difficult to approach. Meanwhile, the players have to carefully observe their surroundings to arrange objects and create safe paths, help overcome obstacles or access complex locations.
As for the video system, Chicken Run does not receive good reviews, only at normal levels. The game has still design in a stop-motion style similar to the movie. The camera system for each character is not a stable operation.
