Referring to the shooting and scene challenge, the players definitely cannot ignore Konami’s famous Contra series. However, with the content and attractiveness similar to the famous game, Rage Software also built the game which is Expendable (Millennium Soldier: Expendable)
Besides, the game is provided by three separate manufacturers and for each different region. Imagineer is a supplier to the Japanese market. Infogrames North America is responsible for publishing in North America. Finally, Infogrames Multimedia is for Europe. The game was first released in 1999 for the Microsoft Windows platform. It was later available to two other platforms, Sega Dreamcast (June 1999) and PlayStation (April 22, 2000).
In the context, Expendable takes place during the postwar period, when a powerful and dangerous alien race invaded humanity. In the fight against it, scientists had tried to create super warriors that could withstand intense battles. That ordinary warrior can hardly overcome without leaving psychological and physical consequences. Therefore, a top-secret project the Millennium Soldier was carried out, and two special warriors were created (through asexual reproduction).
In the game, the players will control one of the special warriors to fight aliens. Players will participate in this intense battle on each individual level. There are nearly 20 levels to conquer, and some will bring battles with powerful bosses. Like many shooting games, the players have the mission to destroy all enemies and traps in the way. Besides, players also have to move smartly to avoid many attacks from enemies. To assist players, the game has many weapons systems with their own features, and you can collect them along the way. Also, players can collect some recovery items. In addition, the game has a number of bonus levels to collect additional items to use or accumulate more bonus points to improve achievement.
Unlike the Contra series, Expendable has 3D graphics, and players will control the character from two different perspectives. Top-down view for normal levels and a third view for bonus levels. Besides, the character can move in different directions to destroy the enemy. The explosive effects are quite beautiful. But it has limited lighting systems and some areas that make it difficult to observe.
