To continue Alex Kidd in Miracle World (1986), Sega developer designed the fifth version of the Alex Kid series with an exciting adventure. The new version is called in the Enchanted Castle. It was first released on Sega platform in the Japanese market on February 10, 1989. After that, the game was available in the European market on November 30, 1990, and in North America on March 20, 1991. This game was built with a 16-bit system for creating beautiful images and harmonious colors.
Alex’s new adventure began after he heard an unexpected rumor. It was saying that Alex’s father, King Thor, was still alive, and he’s on Planet Paperock. From there, Alex left the planet Aries (being ruled by King Igul, Alex’s brother) to travel to the other planet and find his lost father.
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle has many challenges with three levels for players to explore, including Easy, Normal and Hard. In particular, each level will bring its different number of obstacles. The game will provide landscape challenges, and you must complete many different stages. Players have to cleverly move and collect as many gold coins as possible, which will be used to buy support items and complete challenges faster. You can collect coins by fighting enemies (different animals, birds, hedgehogs, turtles …) or destroying treasure chests along the way. To defeat the enemy, Alex can punch or kick. Besides, Alex can also crawl or jump into the air to overcome obstacles.
Instead of buying support items from the stores like other games, players will go to betting houses to make transactions. Here, players will have to compete with a COM in the mini-game Janken (Rock-paper-scissors). Before playing, you must bet a certain amount of money. Winning the Janken match, you will receive support items to use. In case you lost, you will be punished. With the Japanese version, losing will cause your clothes to be removed and have to be naked. As for the Western version, the character will be crushed by a iron block falling from above.
