Area 88 is a Japanese manga series by Kaoru Shintani that was serialized from 1979 to 1986. The story is about a young pilot named Shin. Kazama and his experiences are at Area 88, a remote mercenary airbase in a war-torn country’s desert.
You play as a member of the infamous mercenary group known as the United Nations Team. Your primary mission will be to prevent an army of alien soldiers from taking over your Asian kingdom. Cross-planet arms dealers lead these powers. Under the critical situation, it’s time for a hero to show up and stop their behavior. Your chances of success are relatively small. Although you have the supernatural ability to completely restore what has been damaged in the kingdom, it is not easy to ultimately defeat these alien powers.
Most of this game’s levels are quite crazy shooting situations and operate on a relatively basic principle of pressing and holding buttons and avoiding unnecessary tactics. Several moves and strategies are also present in the game. However, choosing members for the pilot crew is your most crucial decision as each of you has its pros and cons. For example, Greg Gates has the most health, while Shin Kazama can power up the main Vulcan fastest, and the Mickey Scymon can carry more unique weapons.
Before performing the mission, you can get the right to shop, choose aircraft, and other special weapons. Not only do you have to select the best and most suitable aircraft for you, but you also have to find a way to equip the best weapons because it is not easy to buy. Besides, you only get your money back on. The special weapons do not use if you complete the mission. If you die, the cash you accumulate will evaporate. Don’t be fooled into spending all your money on weapons that aren’t necessary. You will start with the default planes and earn enough money to be upgraded to a better airplane. You do it by taking down your enemies and taking over the money they have for themselves. This gives a real feel to the game, as you probably won’t go far if you spend all your money. You are not careful.
