Super Bomberman 2 is the only game in the series that I’ve played for the Super Nintendo and it’s without a doubt one of the best multiplayer games
The single-player game is good; it’s just that the multiplayer is better. The challenge in single-player is well-paced, levels are well laid out, and some little extras make the game enjoyable (cannons and those walking machines come to mind). The bosses are large, though for the most part easy. Where this game really shines, though, is in the multiplayer mode. With a Super Multitap, up to four players can duke it out in a bomb fest until only one person remains. You set the time limit and number of wins required to be victorious, along with the battle area, of which there are 10 to choose. Each one presents a different challenge: ice, warp tiles, speed changes, conveyor belts, bushes that hide you, and so forth. All the regular powerups are available. When four skilled players are competing, much strategy would be required to come out victorious.
For the most part, the controls aren’t a problem. In multiplayer games, you shouldn’t have any problems at all. But when you have to jump across a lake, the control factor can be somewhat frustrating at first. But you’ll get used to it after a few tries.
The sound effects are just like they should be. The bombs sound like bombs when they blow up (sorta). And most of the other sound effects such as the cheering of the crowds and bombs bouncing around the board, are well done too. Most of the music is fast-paced. And it will get you in the mood to start blasting away at everything you see.
