Tom and Jerry is an American animated franchise and series of comedy short films created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
There is no real story to speak of here. You basically play as Jerry, the mouse, who’s job is to get through the stage without Tom, the cat, eating him. Besides, there seems to be no point to this at all. At the end of most stages, you fight Tom. He also gets beaten, and we’re all happy. You might want to see Jerry writhe with pain as Tom chews on him. Unfortunately, nothing of the sort happens throughout the entire game, even if you lose.
Each stage is divided into three levels, as shown with Tom holding up the piece of film. And, every third stage is a boss battle with Tom. The first thing you see in the game is Tom and Jerry’s marquee, where Jerry himself hops along. Then he ends up in a project before surfing down the aisle to face Tom.
Let me tell you about the Tom battles in this one. Let’s say they come off more impressive in the Nintendo version. It’s usually Tom hiding behind something like the first battle. So, you just see his arms and the top of his head as he tries to smash you with things where he could easily use his fists.
